Okay, so I wanted to settle in and watch the Notre Dame game. Seemed straightforward enough, figured I’d just find it.
First step, grabbed the remote, flipped on the TV. Started with the channels you’d expect, right? Went through ESPN, ESPN2, checked the main FOX channel, even glanced at CBS. You know, the big networks that usually show the major college games. Found a lot of other stuff, other teams playing, pre-game shows, but no Fighting Irish.
Started to wonder then. Is it on one of those secondary channels? Like ESPNU or FS1? Clicked through the guide, scanning the listings. Still nothing. Sometimes they stick these games on conference networks too, like the ACC Network since Notre Dame plays a lot of those teams. Checked that too. No luck. Time’s ticking, kickoff’s getting closer.
Okay, Need to Actually Search
Got tired of just guessing and flipping channels. Decided I needed to actually look it up properly. Pulled out my phone while the TV was still on. Went to search online. Just typed in something simple at first, like “what channel notre dame game”. Got a mix of news articles, scores, schedules, but not the straight answer I wanted right away.
Realized I needed to be more specific. Tried again, this time adding “vs [Opponent Name]” and “today”. That helped filter out the noise. Started seeing results mentioning the specific broadcast information for today’s game.
What I typically piece together from this process:
- Most of the time, if Notre Dame is playing at home, the game’s gonna be on NBC. That’s been their setup for years.
- Recently, I’ve also seen Peacock mentioned a lot alongside NBC. That’s their streaming service. So, sometimes it’s broadcast on NBC TV channel and also streamed there.
- Now, if they’re playing an away game, it gets trickier. It could be on ABC, ESPN, maybe FOX, often depends on who they’re playing and where. If it’s an ACC opponent on the road, ACC Network is a possibility too.
So, after digging for a minute or two, confirmed today’s game was indeed on NBC because it was a home game. Just like it usually is. Kind of a reminder that I should probably just assume NBC first for home games and save myself the channel surfing. But yeah, that’s how I tracked it down today. Found it just before the game started, thankfully.
