Well, ain’t this somethin’, talkin’ ’bout this “Boston dinner crossword” thing. I don’t rightly know what them city folks get up to with their puzzles and such, but I reckon I can jaw on about it a bit.
Now, if you’re askin’ me what a Boston dinner is, I’d say it’s prob’ly whatever them folks eat up there. Could be beans, could be some kind of fish, I don’t rightly know. But if you puttin’ it in one of them crossword things, I guess it gotta be a short word. Somethin’ like SCROD. Don’t ask me what that is, sounds fishy to me.
- Maybe they like cod? We got plenty of fish around here too. Catch it myself sometimes.
- Or maybe it’s some fancy dish they got up there, with a name you can’t hardly pronounce.
This crossword puzzle, it’s like a game, right? You gotta figure out the words from the clues. Now, I’m more used to workin’ puzzles outside, like figurin’ out how to fix a fence or get a stubborn cow to move. But I reckon this ain’t much different. You just gotta use your noodle.
If you see “Boston dinner” in one of them puzzles, you gotta think about what words fit and what letters you already got filled in. That SCROD word, it’s got five letters. Fits right in, I bet. If you see “Boston entree” that’s prob’ly the same thing. Just a fancy word for a dish.
They say this clue shows up a lot in them puzzles. Newsday, they call it. I never seen no Newsday, but I guess it’s one of them papers. Must be a popular word, this SCROD thing. People keep puttin’ it in their puzzles.
I heard tell they got a whole bunch of answers for this Boston dinner thing. Forty, they say. But I reckon SCROD is the one they use the most. It’s short and fits good. You know, like a good pair of work boots.
