Well, let me tell ya ’bout this fella, Ed Browning, from Oregon State. Folks keep talkin’ ’bout him, so I figured I’d put in my two cents, ya know? They say he played quarterback there, back in the day, from ’87 to ’91. That’s a long time ago, I tell ya. I reckon he was a pretty good player, seein’ as how people still jawin’ about him.

Ed Browning Oregon State: A Legacy Remembered

Now, I ain’t no fancy football expert or nothin’, but I hear tell he was somethin’ special. A real standout, they say. A quarterback, that’s the fella who throws the ball, right? Sounds important. They don’t just let anybody do that, I reckon. He must’ve been strong and smart, like my ol’ mule, Bessie. She was a good mule, Bessie was.

  • Ed Browning played quarterback.
  • He played for Oregon State.
  • Years he played: 1987-1991.

Folks keep comparin’ him to his son, Jake Browning. Seems Jake played football too, up in Washington, for the Huskies. They say Jake was a good player too, efficient, they call it. I guess that means he didn’t mess up much. That’s important, not messin’ up. Like when you’re milkin’ the cow, you don’t wanna spill no milk, right? Same thing with football, I reckon. Don’t wanna fumble the ball, or whatever they call it.

Anyways, they say Jake’s daddy, Ed, he was the one who got him started in football. Taught him everything he knew, I guess. That’s how it goes, ain’t it? Fathers teachin’ their sons, mothers teachin’ their daughters. It’s the way of the world. Like my mama taught me how to make biscuits, and I taught my girl, and she taught hers. Keeps things goin’, ya know?

I hear tell Jake had a real good game once, up in Corvallis, where his daddy played. That must’ve been somethin’, playin’ on the same field your daddy played on. Makes ya think, don’t it? About family and history and all that. Like when you look at an old photograph, and you see your grandma standin’ in the same spot you’re standin’ in now. It’s kinda spooky, but also kinda nice.

They say Ed Browning left a mark on college football. An “indelible mark,” they call it. That sounds fancy, but I guess it means he did somethin’ important, somethin’ people remember. Like when that big storm came through and knocked down the old oak tree in the pasture. That left a mark, alright. Everybody remembers that tree.

Ed Browning Oregon State: A Legacy Remembered

So, yeah, Ed Browning. Oregon State quarterback. Father of Jake Browning. Left his mark. That’s what I hear, anyways. And from what I can gather, he was a pretty darn good football player. Not that I know much about it, but folks seem to think so. And that’s good enough for me. He must’ve been somethin’ special, that Ed Browning. Somethin’ special indeed. Just like my Bessie. She was a special mule.

Now, they got all sorts of numbers and stats for these fellas, you know? Like how many times they threw the ball, and how many times they caught it, and how far they ran. I don’t pay no mind to that stuff. It’s just a bunch of numbers to me. What matters is if they played hard and did their best. That’s what my pappy always told me, and I reckon it’s true for football players too. Just do your best, that’s all you can do.

And it sounds like Ed Browning, he did his best. He played hard for Oregon State, and he made his mark. And now folks are rememberin’ him, talkin’ about him. That’s a good thing, I reckon. To be remembered. It means you did somethin’ worthwhile. Like plantin’ a garden, or raisin’ a family, or playin’ a good game of football.

So there you have it. My two cents on Ed Browning. He played quarterback, he played for Oregon State, and he was a pretty good player. That’s all I know, and that’s all I need to know. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed the chickens. They ain’t gonna feed themselves. And that’s a whole lot more important than some old football game, let me tell ya.
