Well, let me tell ya somethin’ ’bout this young fella, Brady Cook. He’s the quarterback for them Missouri Tigers, and folks ‘round here sure do talk about him a lot. Now, I ain’t no sports expert, but I do know a good player when I see one, and this boy’s got some real talent. He was born in 2001, you know, and he’s been playin’ football since he was a youngin’. He went to Chaminade College Preparatory School over in Creve Coeur, Missouri, and it didn’t take long for folks to notice his skill. He was throwin’ touchdowns left and right—33 of ‘em in his senior year, along with 3,194 yards! Now, that’s some serious throwin’ if you ask me.
Brady Cook was rated as a three-star recruit when he was comin’ out of high school. For all that fancy recruitin’ talk, what it means is he was considered one of the best quarterbacks in the state of Missouri. So, what does that mean for us? Well, it means that big ol’ University of Missouri was quick to snatch him up. And you know what? That was a smart move. He decided to commit to playin’ for the Tigers, and let me tell ya, they got themselves a good one.
Now, he didn’t jump straight into playin’ as a starter. No, he had to wait his turn, just like everybody else. His first year, in 2020, he redshirted. That means he didn’t play much, but he got a chance to practice and learn. I reckon it worked out for him, though, ‘cause when he did get on that field, he sure made a name for himself. He only played in three games that year, but he still managed to throw for 72 yards and a touchdown. Not bad, right?
Then came the 2021 season, and Brady Cook finally got the chance to start. I tell ya, folks ‘round here were buzzin’. By the time 2023 came around, he’d led the Tigers to all sorts of victories, and there was no doubt in anybody’s mind that he was the real deal. But don’t go thinkin’ it’s all been smooth sailin’. Nah, he’s had his share of struggles too, like anybody does. Just this past season, he had to deal with a high ankle sprain in the middle of the game against Auburn. That’s a nasty injury, but Brady didn’t quit. He came back out on the field later in the game, still leadin’ the team like a champ. He’s tough, that one. But it wasn’t just that injury he had to fight through. No sir, he’s also been dealin’ with a hand and wrist injury from a game against Alabama. Even with all that pain, though, he’s still been out there playin’ his heart out.
Now, Brady Cook ain’t just a good football player, he’s also a smart one. He was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2021, and just last year in 2023, he was named SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Ain’t that somethin’? He’s not just hittin’ them footballs, he’s hittin’ the books too. That’s somethin’ to be proud of, especially for a young man who coulda easily just focused on the game. But no, he’s showin’ that you can do both—play football and be smart. That’s a good lesson for the young folks out there, if ya ask me.
Now, I know y’all want to hear more about his football journey, so let me tell ya, there’s been a lot of ups and downs, but Brady Cook has proved time and again that he’s got the stuff to keep goin’.
